Midget A Barons The Barons #2 had a successful weekend, as they won 7-5 in Debden Friday night and tied Spiritwood Saturday. The 8-5-3 Barons were also scheduled to host the Meadow Lake Storm Sunday.

A one-day local basketball tournament saw four teams from the Humboldt region compete. Teams from Watrous, Middle Lake, and Lake Lenore were at Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) on January 15 to compete in a senior boys' basketball tournament.

A series of trades just before the January 10 deadline left the Humboldt Broncos with just one 20-year-old among their ranks, but the moves seemed to rejuvenate the team.

North Battleford Comprehensive High School and John Paul II co-hosted a senior girls basketball tournament on the weekend. One local team won the tournament while the other took third place in the C pool.

The Battlefords North Stars had an opportunity to distance themselves from the Nipawin Hawks and Flin Flon Bombers and jump ahead of the Humboldt Broncos Tuesday night, but failed to do so.
