The Battlefords Novice Rams weren't one of the originally selected teams to take part in the Western Hockey League Youth Experience, which was part of the SaskEnergy Hockey Day in Saskatchewan festivities, but after the Saskatoon Blades and Regina Pats matched the tickets SaskEnergy and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association had sponsored, the Rams were in.
The Rams took in a game between the Blades and Swift Current Broncos Saturday after receiving their tickets from Cut Knife-Turtleford MLA Michael Chisholm and Sandie Gregoire of SaskEnergy.
"This is an exceptional opportunity for SaskEnergy, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and the Western Hockey League to contribute to the development of hockey in our communities," said Chisholm on behalf of the Honourable Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy in a press release announcing the winning teams. "These young players get to see elite hockey played at the major junior level and learn how hard work and determination can really pay off. "SaskEnergy is again proud to partner with the SHA to keep this experience an important part of Hockey Day in Saskatchewan."
The excited Rams were presented with the tickets at a practice last week at the Agriplex.
"Our team is very appreciative of the generosity of SaskEnergy's prize that our team received and we are proud to be the team able to represent the Battlefords during "Hockey day in Saskatchewan" at the Blades game," said coach Rocky Omelchenko.
The Broncos beat the first Blades 3-2 Saturday.
