With the SJHL trade deadline quickly approaching and the 2011 portion of the season underway, teams are quickly trying to decide which direction they want to go for the remainder of the season.

An exciting day of NFL action Sunday capped off the regular season and now playoff preparations begin. One team considered the underdog in the playoffs would have to be the only team with a record below .500.

Light NSRHL schedule

Due to the holidays, senior hockey has slowed down in the area, but that will change and be back to normal next weekend with seven games scheduled over two days. The lone score to report on from last week was a rematch of the NSRHL final.

Settlers knocked off top of standings

After a 4-0 start to the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League season, Maymont has lost two straight, both in lopsided games. Dec. 23, the Settlers were in Battleford to play the Beaver Blues and Maymont lost 12-2.

Dominic Perrault, former Battlefords North Star defenceman and current Estevan Bruin, has been known for a physical style of hockey and now there is a reward in place for that.

DECEMBER 29 North Saskatchewan River Hockey League has the Edam Three Stars at home to Turtleford and Meadow Lake in Wilkie for 8:30 p.m. starts. DECEMBER 30 Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League has the Saulteaux Three Stars in Battleford for an 8 p.m.

A Light of Christ Catholic School Division elementary wind-up bonspiel was held at the Battleford Curling Rink Dec. 3. Action started at 9 a.m. and went through until 3 p.m. All teams played five games over the day and fun was had by all.

Broncos lose in Yorkton, win in Melville

After a snowstorm cancelled their last home game of 2010 on December 14, the Humboldt Broncos headed out to face the Yorkton Terriers and the Melville Millionaires in their final match-ups before the Christmas break.

Eight-team atom tourney

The four Battlefords atom teams hosted their annual home tournament on the weekend and had four other teams attend. Winning the A final was Dinsmore over Hafford. The Battlefords Bruins lost to Wilkie in the B final.
