As the autumn season fast approaches and students return to their studies, many of the local youth organizations have begun meeting again for the new season.
Amongst these is the Moose Mountain Air Cadets, a body which introduces youth to the concepts of self-reliance, teamwork, self-discipline, and obedience.
Framed within a military structure which includes a hierarchal rank system, the Air Cadets teach children some important skills to go along with the important concepts the organization embraces.
Beyond fieldcraft like map and compass reading, wilderness survival, and finding your location on the globe with the stars, the Air Cadets offer some unique opportunities for young people who become involved, including the opportunity to fly a glider-plane.
Another wonderful aspect of the Air Cadets is that, as part of the Canadian Armed Forces Cadet movement, there are no costs associated with the uniform and other accoutrements required.
Also, as a Canada-wide organization with support from an outside agency, there are opportunities for youth to become involved with programs that span the country, from the far north, to the maritime east, from the industrial south to the mountainous west.
The Moose Mountain Air Cadets meet at Carlyle Elementary School on Monday nights, starting at 6:30 p.m.
