Old friends

How long has it been since you've had one of those eye-popping, jaw dropping experiences? I had one last week. "I just wanted to let you know," a friend wrote as she passed on the news that a mutual friend and role model had recently died.

Truly seeding season has arrived in Saskatchewan. Farmers and gardeners have already been busy scattering seeds in the fields and planting flowers in the gardens.

A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: "That's the ugliest baby that I've ever seen." The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming.

The second Sunday of May is Mother's Day. Some people want to rename Mother's Day as Family Day. Personally I do not agree with that, because the meaning of the family has been changing from time to time.

He who rides upon the clouds

Four rabbis had a theological arguments, and three were in accord against the fourth. "Three to one, majority rules," they argued. "I know I'm right," the fourth said and asked God for a sign from heaven. A storm cloud rumbled and dissolved.

Making your election sure

In British Columbia, the Canadian province where I reside, politics can most gently be described as polarized. This week's provincial elections added yet another dimension to that picture.
