It was fight night in Estevan on Friday, Sept. 10 when Estevan Police Service (EPS) members were called upon to intervene in a couple of scraps, one that even ended up including a police officer before one of the combatants could be hauled away.

August turned out to be a busy month for officers at both the North Portal and Estevan Highway (Noonan) border crossings.

After coming close last week, the Estevan Lafrentz Trucking Steelers got their first win of the season on Saturday. The Steelers used a balanced attack and capitalized on six second half turnovers to crush the Notre Dame Hounds 38-0.

The people have spoken and the members of Estevan city council were clearly listening. Due in large part to the public's near unanimous objection, the members of council have decided not to change the speed limit on a section of Fourth Street.

Recent upheavals within the Sun Country Health Region appear to substantiate our earlier suggestion that this province's regional health system requires a complete makeover if not outright demolition.

The Estevan Comprehensive School senior girls' volleyball team got their season underway last weekend, winning the 16-team Carlyle Mega-Volley tournament.

They hit a bump in the road last week, but the Estevan Century 21 Chargers bounced back in fine fashion, dropping the Regina Golden Hawks 12-8 at Woodlawn Regional Park on Saturday.

More random thoughts for this week folks, mainly because I'm unable to stay focused on any one subject for more than a minute these days.

The Estevan Sherrit Coal Miners had a strong showing, but came out on the losing end of a 26-14 decision against the Weyburn Ravens in an atom division game on Saturday.
