They hit a bump in the road last week, but the Estevan Century 21 Chargers bounced back in fine fashion, dropping the Regina Golden Hawks 12-8 at Woodlawn Regional Park on Saturday.

"I think a little adversity last week may have helped us going forward. We learned from our mistakes and we're getting better," said Chargers head coach Steve McLellan.

Estevan opened the scoring in the second quarter on what looked like a broken play. Mitchell Clark ran the ball into the end zone untouched after a teammate who was falling to the ground pitched the ball laterally to him. The heads-up play put the Chargers in the lead, 6-0.

"That was Kristen Skjonsby that pitched it to him that was a deadly play and it's actually a designed play," said McLellan.

Skjonsby wasn't done there however; in the third quarter she picked up the ball in the back field and charged through the Golden Hawk defenders for a 60 yard touchdown run, doubling the Chargers lead to 12-0.

From there, Estevan's defence held the fort and didn't allow the Hawks anywhere near the end zone until the last minute of play when they finally pushed one across. It was too late though and the Chargers came out on top 12-8.

"The defence again was really, really strong. There was one broken play there at the end, but otherwise we had another shutout on the books," said McLellan. "As far as the offence goes, I think we were able to move the ball when we needed to and I'm not concerned with our offence at all."

With the win, the Chargers improve to 4-1 on the season. Like the Miners, the Chargers will be on the road this Saturday. They'll be up against the Mustangs in Regina at 1:15 p.m.
