ESTEVAN - Two people from B.C. who were charged in a drug bust in Estevan last fall made another appearance in Estevan Provincial Court.
Minhaaz Ali appeared by video and Christina McGillivray was in court by phone call on Monday. Ali's attorney said they received some disclosure they had requested and they had the opportunity to view it. During his next appearance, they hope to be in position to enter a plea, assuming McGillivray is in the same position. Her lawyer expects they will.
Their matters were adjourned to Feb. 10. Both remain in custody.
Background: According to the Estevan Police Service, members executed a search warrant at a hotel after Ali and McGillivray were arrested for drug trafficking offences during a traffic stop.
The search warrant stemmed from an EPS Patrol Division investigation, which led to the seizure of cocaine with a street value of approximately $80,000 and more than $5,000 in Canadian currency.
As a result of the investigation, Ali and McGillivray were charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine); trafficking a schedule I substance (cocaine); and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Meanwhile, Timothy William Irwin's matters were back in court on Monday. One of the charges he is facing, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine [crystal meth]), has been stayed.
The Oxbow man is still charged with one count each of sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine), and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles).
His next court date will be March 3.
Charges against these people have not been proven in court.
