ESTEVAN - A member of the Estevan Police Service who is facing a number of charges had his case heard for the first time Monday in Estevan Provincial Court.
Const. Vaughn Golden has been charged with assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and violating his release conditions. His matters were adjourned to Feb. 10, also in Estevan.
Lawyer Heather Kelly, speaking on Golden's behalf on Monday, said they are still waiting for disclosure.
Background: The provincial Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) announced late in 2024 that it had laid charges against Golden, after the EPS had notified SIRT of an allegation of interpersonal violence involving the member. The officer was arrested by SIRT investigators.
He was placed on non-uniform, administrative duties by the EPS after his arrest.
Golden was required to refrain from having contact with multiple named parties. On Dec. 22, the EPS notified SIRT that Golden was believed to have had contact with one of the individuals on the undertaking. Following a comprehensive review of the evidence gathered both by the EPS and SIRT, it was determined that reasonable grounds existed to believe Golden had committed a Criminal Code offence.
Golden has been relieved of his duties and is on a paid leave under the Police Act.
The charges have not been proven in court.
