WHITE BEAR FIRST NATIONS - One of two people charged in connection with the death of a man on the White Bear First Nations in December has been granted bail.

Dwayne Maxie, charged with manslaughter in Talon Lonethunder's death, was granted bail for $2,500 Wednesday after a show-cause hearing at Carlyle Provincial Court. As part of his release conditions, Maxie needs to be of good behaviour and he will also need to have a surety who ensures Maxie follows the release terms.

Maxie's next court appearance will be Feb. 12 in Carlyle. It's also the next scheduled court appearance for Jeremy Whitebear, who is charged with second-degree murder in Lonethunder's death.

Whitebear was remanded into custody following his most recent court appearance on Jan. 5.

Background: At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of an injured individual at a residence on the White Bear First Nations. Officers immediately responded and located the 33-year-old Lonethunder deceased. He was originally from White Bear and was residing in Coronach.

Charges were announced Dec. 5. Both men were on the run at that time. Whitebear was arrested two days later at WBFN. Maxie was apprehended Dec. 12 in Regina.
