PHYLLIS RUTH SOMMERFELD 1939 – 2025
Phyllis Ruth Sommerfeld, late of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Mary Fries, and her brothers Arnold and Lawrence Fries. Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her husband Elmer, and daughters: Kathy (Frank) Ponto of Colinton, AB; Karla Sommerfeld (Rod Gilmour) of Moose Jaw, SK; and Sue (Russell) Turner of Edmonton, AB. She was known to many relatives and long-time friends simply as Auntie Phyllis and she was much loved.
In her early working years, she worked for Canadian Linen Supply in their Regina office, Sterling Shoes of Regina in their accounting office, then worked for several years as a teller in a Regina branch of The Toronto Dominion Bank. She closed out her working days after several years with the Government of Saskatchewan, Finance Department, Payroll Section. Following her working years, she loved camping and fishing and did a lot of it with husband Elmer. Before Elmer’s retirement, she joined him on numerous business trips, travelling to many major Canadian and American cities.
Phyllis and Elmer were married for nearly 67 years; together exclusively for 70. They have nine grandchildren: Jason (Corinne), Tracy (David), Alannah, Lauren, Maddie (Cohen), Joey (Kelsie), Marlon (Hannah), Dani (Ryan) and Kevin (Isabel). They were also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Bodhi, Anders, Ada, Sophie, Abby, Bentley, Charlotte, Rowan and Wren. They already miss Grandma Phyllis.
Cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be interred beside her mother and father at Regina Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Phyllis’ Life will be held on June 28th, 2025.
