MEADOW LAKE — April 22 was just another ordinary day when Donald McCallum and Darlene Matchee decided to pick up a Lotto Max ticket for the draw that evening. They had no idea the decision to add the Extra to their purchase would win them $100,000!

The Meadow Lake couple picked up their ticket from Meadow Lake Co-op at 107 2nd Ave in that community and held on to it, only checking it a couple of weeks later when they returned to the Co-op. McCallum handed their ticket to the cashier and, after scanning it, the machine made a noise, notifying the couple that they had won.

"Donald wasn't paying attention," Matchee laughed. “He had to ask if we won."

With the ticket in his hand, McCallum looked and thought he won $10,000, so he called over another employee to get a second set of eyes.

"No, it's 100K!" the employee told him.

Overhearing what the employee had said, Matchee ran over.

"I didn't even finish paying for my groceries," she recalled as the couple claimed their prize.

The happy couple won by matching the last six digits of the winning EXTRA number from the April 22 Lotto Max draw – 2418773.

"I never thought I would win that amount. I've never seen that much money in my life. After that, I couldn't sleep!" McCallum said as the couple claimed their prize.

"I thought I would have been screaming and hopping as they do on game shows," Matchee laughed. “But I wasn't like that – I just said ‘no way!’ when I realized it was real."
