Firefighters celebrate 25th anniversary

Borden volunteer firefighters celebrated their 25th anniversary Nov. 5, with a roast beef supper catered by the Borden Lions Club in the community centre. There were 65 past and present firefighters, first responders and their spouses at the event.

Are you attending your community's Remembrance Day services? Unity's service will be held at St. Peter's Church starting at 10:30 a.m. The remaining local veterans, as well as the Legion members, go to great lengths to put on this annual service.

Lest we forget. When I was a little girl, I often sat on my grandfather's (opa's) lap as he and my grandmother told stories about how they survived the Second World War in the Netherlands and shared the good and the bad things that happened.

Long warm fall aids harvest operations

The harvest was mostly completed by the end of September. October brought in a few rain showers to delay some of the later fields to be harvest. Fall field work is now taking place, spraying chemicals in preparation for spring seeding.

Volleyball team advances to districts

This week at Maidstone High School has been exciting. Our junior girls' volleyball team won their division and will be moving on to districts. Friday, we send our senior girls' volleyball team to conferences in Spiritwood.

Sewing retreat enjoyed

I would like to thank Battlefords Publishing (Becky Doig) for the lovely dinner we had Oct. 20. It was enjoyable and nice to meet fellow correspondents.

Improvements to patio area appreciated

Many thanks to editor Becky Doig and the staff of Battlefords Publishing for inviting us to attend a Celebrate the Harvest luncheon and tour of the New-Optimist. Some years ago I had toured this locale and always enjoy it.
