NORTH BATTLEFORD – A woman accused of an attempted armed car hijacking in the R. M. of Paynton east of Lloydminster is seeking bail.
Crystal Semaganis, 24, was released from custody in September and has since been re-arrested for breach of conditions. Her show cause hearing is set for Nov. 23. Her co-accused, 30-year-old Durrell Bearsears has been released on bail and his trial is set for July 29, 2024, in North Battleford Provincial Court.
Semaganis and Bearsears, both from Little Pine First Nation, were arrested following an incident at about 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 29 after Maidstone RCMP say they got a call about a robbery.
The police investigation determined that a victim was approached by a parked vehicle that had its hazard lights on. A woman flagged the driver down and once he stopped his vehicle, a man came out of the ditch and pointed a firearm at him. The man was able to escape and call police. He didn’t report any physical injuries to police.
Maidstone RCMP responded immediately and with help from Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services searched the area for the suspects. Semaganis and Bearsears were arrested and charged with robbery, pointing a firearm, and possession of methamphetamine. Bearsears was additionally charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Bearsears has been released on bail. His trial is set for July 29, 2024 in North Battleford Provincial Court.
