Drug trafficking/weapons charges laid after suspicious vehicle report

A Saskatoon resident has been charged with possession of drugs and weapons after a car search.

SASKATOON — A 30-year-old man is facing multiple drug and weapon-related charges following a police investigation on Jan. 16.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. that night, Saskatoon police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the driving lane on Eighth Street East near Broadway Avenue. Officers arrived to find the driver, the lone occupant of the van, asleep at the wheel.

Upon arresting the driver, police discovered several weapons inside the vehicle, including an imitation handgun, two knives, brass knuckles, bear spray and an extendable baton. Further search of the vehicle led to the seizure of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, cannabis, cash and various items consistent with drug trafficking. Police also found a glass pipe in the man's possession.

The man, a Saskatoon resident, has been charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of cocaine. He also faces six charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and one charge of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
