In all the talk about the new Saskatchewan, what sometimes gets lost is that not everything about the old Saskatchewan was bad. There again, perhaps it is time every now and again to refresh old attitudes.

When bright young idealists share their environmental concerns with me, I encourage them to get involved in politics. That's where decisions have to be made about the severe ecological problems we face.

Dear Editor: What happened to the Sask. Wheat Pool? During 1972 to 1992 Sask. Wheat Pool was the largest grain company in Canada enjoying 60 to 70 per cent of the Saskatchewan grain market; plus owning several large elevators in Alberta and Manitoba.

The City has been experiencing growth in recent years, and that has been good news in terms of budgeting. The tax roll has grown and that has helped buffer rising expenditures. But growth was not enough to keep the City budget out of the red in 2012.

On one of my favourite podcasts, The Skeptics Guide to the Universe, the hosts talk quite frequently about how poor science journalism often is. I have to admit, it makes me bristle sometimes, just a little bit. It is fair criticism, however.

It has been an exciting past few weeks in the land of orange. The band had an extra exciting trip to Banff. On their return trip, one of the buses hit the ditch and they were forced to stop their progress and spend the night in the Morse town hall.

I have decided to rebrand the Conservatives' "tough on crime" platform "wrong on crime," or, maybe even better, "dumb on crime." This week, it is the Alberta brand of wrong-headed right-wing thinking that piques my ire.
