WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 82 calls for service during the period of April 29 through May 5, resulting in a total of 12 charges. Of the charges, four were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, six under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and two under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations (VER). Of the criminal charges, all four were in relation to individuals who either failed to comply with a condition of their release or to attend court as required to do so. Warrants were issued for those that failed to appear in court as required.
The Weyburn Police were advised of a theft involving two individuals who left the store and drove off without paying for several items on Monday. Store personnel provided details of the suspect vehicle and video surveillance is pending. This matter is under further investigation.
During the week, the Weyburn Police received several calls regarding suspicious individuals who appeared to be peering in parked vehicles at different times of the night. Vehicle owners are reminded to remove valuables and lock their vehicles when they are parked.
On Saturday afternoon, officers were notified of a possible impaired driver who was reportedly swerving on the road. Vehicle details were obtained and officers were able to locate and conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. Officers discovered the driver was in medical distress and called EMS personnel who attended and provided medical care to the driver.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Monday afternoon which they were able to mediate, as one of the individuals agreed to leave and resolve the matter at a later time when both had cooled off.
Early Tuesday evening, officers were notified of an individual who was staggering as he walked along the road. Officers attended and found an adult male who was heavily intoxicated. The male was lodged in cells until he was sober and released without any charges.
Later Tuesday night, the Weyburn Police received two separate calls regarding two individuals who appeared to be intoxicated, and one of them was laying on the street. Officers located the individuals and were able to give one of them a ride home while the other was lodged in cells until he was sober and released without any charges.
The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
