Weyburn Comp hosts 12-team badminton tourney

The Weyburn Comp Eagles hosted a 12-team senior badminton tournament on Saturday at the Cugnet Centre.

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Comp Eagles hosted a 12-team senior badminton tournament on Saturday at the Cugnet Centre.

There were 96 athletes in total and 25 were from WCS. Tournament and WCS results are as follows.

For girls singles, first place went to Oxbow; Anna Tronson of WCS won second, and Sethumi Fernando of WCS won third place.

In boys singles, Estevan took first place, and Yellow Grass was second; Emmanuel Pallarca of WCS won third.

In girls doubles, Ogema won first place; Weyburn’s Monica Regidor and Anushka Raulji won second; and Oxbow placed third.

In boys doubles, Oxbow won first; Vaughn Wendel and Braxton Stinson won second, and Brody Walter and Connor McIndoe took third.

In mixed doubles, Ogema won first place; Mizzy Macute and Marek Keslering of WCS won second; and Andrew Madridejos and Atasha Recto of WCS won third.

This was a home tournament for WCS, with athletes taking part from Yellow Grass, Radville, Pangman, Lampman, Midale, Oxbow and Estevan.

The Weyburn Comp will host the subdistrict badminton playoffs on April 20 at the Cugnet Centre. This is the start of the run for provincials, and if players win there, they continue to advance to the next level.
