Weyburn Comp Eagles football team presents awards at windup

The Weyburn Comp Eagles football team held their windup for the season on Nov. 27, and the team coaches handed out the team awards.

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Comp Eagles football team held their windup for the season on Nov. 27, and the team coaches handed out the team awards.

This was the wrap-up to a perfect undefeated season, which included the Eagles winning the 5A provincial championship for the third time. They were subsequently ranked as the No. 1 team in Canada in a ranking of small high school football teams, and this week were named “National Champions” on the top-25 list of high school teams.

The Junior Varsity Rookie of the Year award went to Cooper Knox; the Junior Varsity Offensive MVP was Markus Paquet; and the Junior Varsity Defensive MVP was a tie between Tace Odima and Max Vennard.

The Junior Varsity’s Most Improved players were Mekhi Kopec and Elijah Woodend.

For the senior squad, the Senior Rookie of the Year was a tie, between Connor McIndoe and Brody Walter.

There was also a tie for the Senior Heart, Hustle and Dedication award, which went to Chace Kradovill and Owen Istace. The Senior Most Improved award went to Max Crane.

The Senior Offensive MVP award was tie between Conner Kerr and Owen Istace; and the Senior Defensive MVP award went to Alex Junk. The Senior Special Teams MVP was Conner Kerr.

The Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award went to Carson Baumgartner.

The Most Outstanding Offensive Back was Owen Istace, and the Most Outstanding Receiver was a tie between Nolan Uhren and Isaiah Sanderson.

The Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman was Chace Kradovill, and the Most Outstanding Defensive Back was a tie between Jarret Hayward and Haydin Buehler.

The Most Outstanding Linebacker was Alex Junk; and the Most Outstanding Scout Team Player was a tie between Cooper Knox and Kieran Hamel.
