St. Michael students play volleyball, take wrestling classes

Students at St. Michael School enjoyed games and a class in the past week, including a Grade 6 girls volleyball game, and classes over two days with every grade with wrestling coach Ken Kot.

WEYBURN - St. Michael School students had two days of sessions with a wrestling coach in Phys. Ed, and the Grade 6 girls hosted an after-school game with St. Olivier students from Radville.

Weyburn Wrestling Club coach Ken Kot worked with Phys. Ed classes over two days, showing virtually every grade some basic techniques and moves for wrestling.

In the photo gallery here, Kot and substitute teacher Kevin Butz worked with a Grade 3 class to teach them how to properly do a half-Nelson hold, one of the basic moves in wrestling.

For the Grade 6 girls teams from St. Michael and St. Olivier, the game was fun as they learned how to hit, bump and serve the volleyball correctly, without worrying about what the score was.

The coaches adapted a style of first letting a girl serve, then tossing the ball once to each team so they could practice bumping and returning a serve.
