Skies over Weyburn burst in colour and light for Canada Day

Canada Day ended with a fireworks show put on by the City of Weyburn at the fairgrounds, with every spare area for parking taken up by thousands of vehicles parking to watch. Many parked in the fairgrounds area, but there were lines of vehicles parked along Highway 39 as well.

Children decorated bikes in red and white for the Canada Day bike parade at Nickle Lake Regional Park on Friday. There were also craft activities, a market, and entertainment in the beer gardens, along with the Souris River Smoke-off competition, going Friday and Saturday.

Weyburn's Jubilee Park was rockin' on Thursday night for the Young Fellows centennial concert, featuring headliners Tenille Arts, the Hunter Brothers, and openers Brayden King and Dan Cugnet. The concert was the culmination of months of organizing work, with an army of volunteers from throughout the community helping to ensure the event went off smoothly.

Weyburn police put on bike rodeo in Jubilee Park

A bike rodeo was organized by the Weyburn Police Service in Jubilee Park, utilizing the pathway system for each station, testing young cyclists on the rules and on their knowledge of bike safety. Volunteers from throughout the community helped man the stations, including a bike decorating station, and the Salvation Army put on a barbecue at the end.

Students at St. Michael School in Weyburn enjoyed Indigenous Culture Day activities all day on Friday, including talks by knowledge keeper Lyndon Linklater, storytelling by Autumn Baptiste, Indigenous games and activities with Joni Brass, and a blanket exercise for the Grade 9 classes.
