MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- The competition gets tougher and tougher each step of the way, but that won’t stop Â鶹ÊÓƵ Central district badminton players from looking to advance to the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association provincial championship this coming weekend.
Players took to the court in the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Central championship last weekend, with the top teams from each division advancing to regionals in Rouleau this Saturday.
Representing the district in girls singles will be gold medalist Kiana Hrechka from Cornerstone and runner-up Stacey Auger from Gravelbourg, while the boys singles representatives will be gold medalist Zen Quimo and third-place finisher Allan Lu, both from Peacock.
The girls doubles division will see district champs Sophie Simonson and Miyah Tucker of Gravelbourg joined by Mallory Tendler and Kaleigh McCann from Bengough.
Boys doubles will see Â鶹ÊÓƵ Central represented by gold medalists Kenton Hillmer and Ty Reid of Assiniboia, while third-place finishers Tanner Behrns and Drew Biette from Cornerstone will also vie to advance.
Mixed doubles will be represented by gold medalists Micah Salido-Porter and Tara Nguyen from Central, with silver medalists Layla Rotheisler and Ben Ratzlaff of Gravelbourg also in action.
Regional playdowns feature two pools of four in each division, with the top two finishers in each advancing to provincials in Nipawin on May 11.
