WEYBURN – Schools from throughout the southeast region converged to take part in the Weyburn regional track meet on Wednesday, with the smoky air cancelling longer distance events such as the 1,500 and 3,000-metre races.
For other races, athletes had to indicate to race marshals that they had gotten the permission of their parents to take part.
Athletes took part from the Weyburn Comp, Legacy Park, Assiniboia Park, St. Michael, Fillmore, Yellow Grass, Stoughton, Pangman, Ogema, Radville, Gladmar, Arcola, Redvers, Maryfield and Wawota.
A few records were broken at the regional meet, including the following. For atom boys, Rylan Meier of APES set a new record for 200m, with a time of 29.96 seconds, and in the 400m, with a time of 2:44:49. For atom girls, Stoughton School’s 4X100 relay team set a record time of 1:17:68. For peewee girls, Sophie Pollock of the Weyburn Comp set a record in the 100m race with a time of 13:52 seconds. For junior boys, Jarret Hayward of WCS set a record in the 100m race with a time of 11:05 seconds. For junior girls, Amryn King of WCS set records in the long jump, with a distance of 4.82 metres, and in the triple jump with a distance of 9.93m.
For senior boys, Noah Kopec of WCS set a record in the 100m race with a time of 11:09 seconds; and the WCS 4X100 relay team set a record with a time of 48.92 seconds.
