Regina Rebels win bronze at national Esso Cup finals

The Regina Avana Rebels AAA U18 girls, including two Weyburn players, came home with the bronze medal from the Esso Cup

WEYBURN – The Regina Avana Rebels AAA U18 girls, including two Weyburn players, came home with the bronze medal from the Esso Cup national championship held in Prince Albert.

The girls defeated the Northern Selects from the Atlantic region by a score of 5-1 on Saturday in the bronze medal game.

The Rebels included Rayna Henning on defence, and Addison Greve on offence, both from Weyburn.

Prior to that game, they had won over the host Prince Albert Bears on Wednesday by the score of 5-2, with Greve contributing two assists in the win.

In their final round-robin game on Thursday, the Rebels beat the Northern Selects 7-3, with Greve assisting on the Rebels’ first goal in the first period.

In the semi-final on Friday, they were edged out 1-0 by the Fraser Valley Rush, sending them to the bronze medal game on Saturday.

In the bronze medal game, Rayna Hennie assisted on the Rebels’ first goal in the first period, then Hennie scored the Rebels’ third goal, in the second period. She was named one of the Rebels’ game leaders for her efforts.
