Hosting Scotties was a huge success for Assiniboia Curling Rink

The crowds at the Scotties were pretty consistent throughout the tournament, with slightly higher numbers during the medal matches.

ASSINIBOIA - A week after hosting the 2022 Viterra Scotties Women’s Curling Tournament, the Assiniboia committee now has time to reflect on the success of hosting the event.

“We thought it all went great,” said Rob Greensides, chair of the Assiniboia host committee. “We received a lot of support from the fans, the sponsors, the volunteers, and the curlers. CurlSask was amazed at how well the event was hosted.”

Due to COVID-19 protocols that were in place during the curling tournament, the Assiniboia host committee worked hard to “create a bubble for the curlers, and ensure that everyone who entered the rink was vaccinated, to keep everyone safe.”

According to Greensides, the crowds at the Scotties were pretty consistent throughout the tournament, with slightly higher numbers during the medal matches.

“Even with the cold weather, people stuck it out to go watch curling!”

Greenside was hopeful that even with the cold weather and COVID restrictions, local businesses still had a flux of customers.

Overall, Greenside said it was a great feeling to know that hosting the Scotties was so successful.

“We have hosted events like this one in the past, but you never know what to expect, and it is a great feeling to hear that it was done properly and CurlSask is considering our rink for other future events.”

The next step for the Assiniboia host committee is to have a final meeting, where they will review all the bills that need to be paid, before announcing any proceeds from the event. All proceeds from hosting the Scotties will be donated to the Assiniboia Curling Club.
