ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins lost both games during a road trip through western Saskatchewan this week, falling 5-4 in overtime to the Kindersley Klippers on Tuesday in Rosetown and 5-3 at the Battlefords North Stars on Wednesday.

The Bruins raced out to a 3-0 lead in Tuesday's game, with Gabriel Filion scoring midway through the first period, and Ilia Chmelevski adding two in the opening seven minutes of the second.

But then Brock Evans took over for Kindersley. Evans, who is still eligible to play U18 hockey, scored once in the second and twice in the third to tie the game.

Filion added his second of the game to restore the Bruins' lead, but Tylin Hilbig tied the game again on a Klippers' power play with 32 seconds remaining.

Easton Inglis scored the winner 1:11 into overtime. Evans assisted on the goal to finish with a four-point night.

The Bruins' Cam Hrdlicka stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced, while Cody Jaman made 29 saves for Kindersley.

The Battlefords opened the scoring 2:48 into the first period of Wednesday's game on a goal by Treycen Wuttunee, his first in the SJHL. But the Bruins fought back, with Brady Wilson and Filion scoring 75 seconds apart to put the Bruins ahead 2-1 by the 11-minute mark of the first.

It remained a 2-1 game until the second half of the middle frame. Ben Portner scored twice for the Stars and Bradley Blake also scored for a 4-2 Stars' lead.

Owen Barrow's goal 1:40 into the third left the Bruins' down by one, and both teams had numerous chances to score. But it remained a one-goal lead until Kian Bell tallied into an empty net in the final minute for the Stars. He also had three assists for a four-point night.

Jackson Miller made 33 saves for the Bruins, and Matthew MacArthur stopped 30 shots for the Stars.

Estevan (15-17-1-2) will host the Melfort Mustangs on Friday and Saturday night at Affinity Place. Both games start at 7 p.m.
