Carlyle Minor Hockey Association President Wade Robertson was the MC for this year’s Minor Hockey Awards Night held April 4 at the GFK High School gym, and he was quick to thank all the parents of the players for their dedication to getting the younger children to the rink for every practice, game and tournament, as well as their help in running the clock, working the door, 50/50 ticket sales and raffle tables at tournaments as well as all their time spent in the rink kitchen.

Kirk Himmelspach was recognized as the new Ref Co-ordinator and he, in turn, thanked Brent Stillwell for his time on the ice as a ref and for mentoring the kids he worked with.

Of course, nothing would happen if it weren’t for all those who gave of their time as coaches, and Robertson thanked them, as well as their employers, wives and families. He also made sure to thank everyone who volunteers their time on the board, making his job a little easier.

A fundraiser in the beginning of the season was very successful and enabled them to pay for the new half ice boards and the remainder went to helping keep fees as low as possible. Owen Light was recognized as the top seller and received a new stick, much to his delight.

Initiation, Novice and Atom players were each given an individual trophy and Peewee, Bantams and Midgets were recognized with Most Improved, Most Dedicated, Top Offensive, Top Defensive, Most Sportsmanlike, Top Scorer and the MVP Awards.

Dwayne Bye was recognized for 12 years of coaching and his Midget team presented him with a photo of his teams through the years.
