WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 76 calls for service during the period of July 3-9, resulting in a total of 12 charges. Of the charges, six were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, five under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the Tobacco Tax Act.
An officer on patrol on Thursday observed a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle that had just been reported stolen. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled at a high rate of speed. A short time later, the vehicle was located and an adult female was arrested and charged with several offences, including possession of property obtained by crime, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, breaking and entering a residence, failing to comply with a probation order, driving while suspended, and possessing illegal tobacco. The female was held in custody to appear in court.
Police received a report of firearms that were noticed missing from a residence on Wednesday. Detailed information has been obtained regarding the firearms and the matter is being investigated.
Weyburn police received multiple reports of vandalism to vehicles that occurred during the night on July 3. The vandalism includes broken windows and slashed tires. These matters remain under investigation and residents are reminded to report any suspicious persons or activity they may see to the police immediately.
Also on July 3, a local retailer reported an individual who fraudulently picked up an item within the store and brought it to customer service claiming it was a return. The item was processed as a return but the staff realized what occurred after reviewing store video and confirming the individual did not bring the item into the store with them. This matter also remains under investigation.
An adult male was charged with possessing property obtained by crime on Saturday, after police received information regarding a stolen bike. The bike was located and returned to its rightful owner.
The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
