Weyburn police arrest man for assault of officer, drunk driving

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 110 calls for service during the period of June 26 to July 2, resulting in a total of 38 charges. Of the charges, 21 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, 14 under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA) and three under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Police responded to a domestic situation resulting in several charges on Saturday. Upon arriving on scene, officers conducted a traffic stop on an individual involved in the incident. The individual was found to be impaired and assaulted the police while being arrested. The male was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. The individual was released with a future court date.

Special units of the Weyburn Police Service, along with assisting officers from the Estevan Police Service, executed a search warrant on a residence in Weyburn on June 29. As a result, three adults were charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of property obtained by crime (currency), and possessing a weapon dangerous to public. All three individuals will appear in Weyburn Provincial Court at a later date.

Officers responded to a local motel after a female reported being assaulted on Sunday. As a result, an adult male faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault by choking, uttering threats of harm, and failing to comply with a condition of his release. The male was remanded in custody to appear in court.

Police received a complaint of dirt bikes driving within the city limits on June 26. Officers located the individuals involved and educated them on the City Of Weyburn bylaw. Police would like to remind the public that dirt bikes and ATVs are prohibited from being driven within the City of Weyburn.

A local motel reported an individual who refused to pay for her stay, which exceeded $2,000, on June 28. The adult female was charged for fraudulently obtaining lodging.

Officers on patrol spotted a male on June 30 who had failed to appear in court as required, and therefore had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Police arrested the male who will be appearing at an upcoming court date.

Also on Friday, the RCMP received a report of an abandoned vehicle in the middle of a grid road near Midale. After locating the vehicle and speaking to the owner, it was learned that the vehicle was stolen from a residence in Weyburn. The vehicle was seized and towed to Weyburn to be examined for evidence.

Police were dispatched to a local establishment regarding an intoxicated female on Saturday. Upon arrival, officers located and arrested the adult female for public intoxication as well as for having an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The female was held in custody until sober and released with a future court date.
