WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 73 calls for service during the period of Oct. 10-16, resulting in a total of 17 charges. Of the charges, six were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, four under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and the remaining seven under the City of Weyburn Bylaws and other provincial Acts or Regulations.
Weyburn police responded to an urgent call shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday morning, involving an adult female being assaulted by an individual with a weapon. The female sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by STARS to the Regina General Hospital.
A youth was taken into custody and faces charges of attempted murder and two counts of uttering threats. The quick actions of family members and neighbours were “life-saving” and prevented this incident from being far more tragic.
A resident woke up Sunday morning to discover his truck was stolen from his driveway sometime overnight. The truck is described as a white 2007 Cadillac Escalade bearing Saskatchewan licence plate 678MPS. Anyone spotting this vehicle is asked to call the Weyburn Police Service or any other police agency in their jurisdiction.
A breakdown of the week’s charges reveal five matters relate to individuals who either failed to attend court as required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release; four matters relate to traffic infractions including speeding, unregistered vehicle, and displaying a license plate belonging to another vehicle; three matters relate to minors possessing alcohol; one matter relates to the city bylaw regarding a dog running at large; and the remaining four matters relate to more serious incidents including mischief, attempted murder, and uttering threats of harm.
Weyburn police received a call advising that someone was attempting to steal a traffic sign near the skate park. Officers attended and spoke to several youth who were present at the park. As a result, one youth was charged with mischief as the sign was recovered but damaged.
Officers also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals or bylaw concerns.
