WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 68 calls for service during the week of October 3 to 9, resulting in a total of 12 charges. Of the charges, five were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, five under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and two under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act (AGRA).

Weyburn police, along with EMS personnel, responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the downtown area. An SUV making a turn at an intersection struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the street, knocking the pedestrian to the ground causing minor injuries. EMS attended to the pedestrian at the scene before transporting them to the Weyburn General Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the SUV was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for driving without due care and attention.

A concerned citizen attended the Weyburn Police station with a baggie containing small white crystals that they found on the walking path. Officers examined the unknown substance and advised the citizen that the contents were believed to be methamphetamine. The suspected drugs were seized by the officer so they could be safely destroyed.

The Weyburn Police Service encourages those who find unknown substances such as this, or any type of drug paraphernalia, to contact the police so they can attend to the location and safely seize the substance.

Police received a report of a gas drive-off as an adult male driving a black truck fueled up with over $150 of fuel and then drove off without paying. This matter is being investigated further as officers are hopeful that video surveillance will help identify the culprit.

During the early hours of Saturday morning, officers on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle they observed driving erratically. The adult male driver was found to be impaired and was arrested and charged accordingly. He was released with an upcoming court date.

Officers responded to other calls for service ranging from traffic complaints, barking dogs, harassing communications, by-law complaints, false alarms and mischiefs.

Of note, the Weyburn Police Service received a number of suspicious persons reports. The reports appear to be unrelated, and each report is being investigated. Residents reporting crime, including suspicious persons, vehicles or activity, is very helpful in reducing crime in the community.
