A caller reported that a parked vehicle occupied by an adult and a child was parked in a public area on March 12 and it appeared to be filled with cigarette smoke or something similar. Officers attended immediately and located the suspect vehicle and occupants.
A roadside drug-screening test was conducted on the adult female resulting in a positive indication for the presence of cannabis. The driver was issued a 120-day driver’s license suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 60 days, as penalties are higher when a passenger of 15 years old or younger is present.
Officers stopped a vehicle they observed fail to stop at a stop sign on March 6. Further investigation resulted in the adult female driver being arrested and charged for impaired driving. She was also charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to stop at the stop sign, and charged under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act for unlawfully having alcohol in a vehicle.
On March 10, officers responded to a RID (Report Impaired Drivers) complaint. The suspect vehicle was located and a traffic stop was conducted. The adult male driver displayed signs of impairment and further investigation resulted in the male being arrested and charged for impaired driving.
Throughout the week, police conducted traffic enforcement activities in numerous areas of the city, including the construction zone on Highway 39, resulting in several warnings as well as tickets being issued for various offences. Other matters resulting in charges included incidents of speeding, failing to stop at a stop sign, using a cell phone while driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, and unlawfully having alcohol in a vehicle.
The Weyburn Police Service also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
