The Weyburn Police Service responded to 67 calls for service during the week of July 18-24, resulting in a total of 11 charges. Of the charges, four were provincial offences, seven were under the Criminal Code of Canada.
It was a relatively quiet week for the Weyburn Police Service. Incidents of note were:
• July 23rd, at 11:10 a.m. members of WPS attended to the washroom at River Park after receiving a 911 hang-up call indicating a female was inside screaming. Members arrived and located a very upset female who indicated she had been assaulted by her partner. A male adult was located and subsequently arrested for assault and uttering threats. He was released for a court date in the future.
• July 23rd members attended to an animal complaint in the 200 block of Railway Avenue. A dog had been left in a vehicle for extended period of time. Members attended and assessed the dog, which was in good condition as the windows were down all the way and dog was alert. The Weyburn Police Service wants to remind pet owners that with the extreme heat it is imperative that animals not be left in vehicle unattended or without air conditioning as it can be fatal for the animal.
• July 23rd at 11 p.m. members of the WPS conducted a traffic stop at 16th Street and Warren Avenue. A mandatory ASD (Alcohol Screening Device) test was administered to the driver. A subsequent three-day suspension and three-day vehicle impoundment resulted. No criminal charges.
