A regular meeting of the Weyburn City Council was held on July 19, here are the major points of interest:*Mayor Debra Button proclaimed that "we will not rest" until Weyburn is "Riderville" at the beginning of the City Council meeting on July 19. Weyburn was named one of the top five communities entered in the Saskatchewan Roughriders "Where is Riderville?" contest. Button also announced that the month of August would be "Rider Mania Month" in Weyburn.Council applauded Weyburn Rider Nation co-chairs Nicole and Rochelle Wendt for the hard work that went into the campaign."We're looking forward to showing off Weyburn," said Rochelle.The top five communities were recognized at the Riders July 17 home game. The other communities named top five with Weyburn are Avonlea, Nipawin, Unity and Yorkton. The selection committee, along with national, provincial and local media, will tour the top five communities before public voting takes place. The selection committee will be in Weyburn on August 5.Weyburn Rider Nation is asking residents and businesses to show their "Rider Pride" by planning an event and decorating their home or storefront during the next few weeks.Button said that the City would be putting a letter in with the next water bills explaining to residents how to vote for Weyburn in the "Where is Riderville?" contest. Online voting takes place from August 13 to 31 at www.riderville.com."What we know right now is that you will be able to vote everyday during those two weeks," said Nicole. "Our competition is stiff and we need to be thinking about getting everyone we know on board to vote for Weyburn."The community that best represents "Riderville" will be announced during the Labour Day Classic on September 5.*Council approved an application for a five-year tax concession for the Elgin Manor Condominium project in order to encourage development of rental accommodation in the city. Elgin Developments GP Inc. has submitted a building permit application for a condominium complex consisting of eight eight-plex condo units on the land west of Elgin Mall.*Council approved a tender of $215,113.50 for an automated tandem refuse truck from Fer-marc Equipment of Regina.Councillor Bill Rudachyk voiced his concern about the decision to purchase the truck, stating that members of the public have approached him regarding the new refuse system, mainly concerned with finding a place to store the bin on their property.Director of Engineering Blaine Frank stated that he rode along with the City of Moose Jaw during one of their automated refuse collections. He said that the only concern he saw was that there needed to be at least six-feet of space to pick-up a bin."We're about the last city in Saskatchewan to use this system," said Frank. "The solutions are out there we just have to find the answers."Button said that the City must get the truck now in order to have the new system in place for the 2011 year.*Council approved a new four-way stop at the intersection of 16th Street NE and First Avenue NE as recommended by Stantec Consulting in the City's Traffic Study Interim Report.*Council approved an application for a home-based pet grooming parlour from Diana Pady.
