WEYBURN – The Weyburn Fire Department was on the scene of a house fire on Mitchell Crescent mid-morning on Tuesday, along with Weyburn EMS and the Weyburn Police Service.
The Weyburn Fire Department received a phone call of a structure fire at approximately 9:40 a.m.
The fire was mainly at the southern end of the home, with heavy damages to the exterior wall and interior, up into the attic and roof. A neighbour said he saw flames coming out from under the gables and caught a nearby tree on fire.
Responding to the fire was a water tanker, fire engine, aerial ladder truck, heavy rescue, utility truck and command truck.
Upon arrival, the south end of a house was on fire with flames reaching above the roof line. Fire personnel evacuated two adults and a dog from inside the residence. Crews made entry into the structure and rescued an adult cat.
During the initial stages of the emergency, two barbecue propane tanks ruptured causing loud noise and creating a large fire ball around the house.
There are no reported injuries and the investigation is underway. The initial damage estimate is $250,000.
