The summer has come and gone and so has the open season for the Rusty Relics Museum. The museum is open six days a week throughout the summer months and acts as not only a historical landmark but also a tourist information hot spot. This summer the museum played host to museum Wednesdays, where children visited the old CNR train station for themed events. The afternoons consisted of everything from farm day to space day, including everything in between. For many local children, this was the highlight of their summer. The museum also hosted events for the older crowd, welcoming seniors from across Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Saskatchewan to tour the museum grounds. The property currently contains the train station, working telegraph and railway artifacts, a CPR caboose and jigger car, a one-room country school house from 1905, antique farming machinery, a small gift shop with the tourist information counter and they will be receiving much more before the start of the 2013 season. St. Paul's Anglican Church is also museum property, but located further into town. The museum operation and upkeep would not be possible without the dozen or so volunteers that are committed to its well being. Volunteers from across Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Saskatchewan join together each summer to insure the property is up to par. The team works together to provide tourists with information, stack shelves, organize the thousands of antique items, greet guests and keep the property well groomed. The volunteers were honoured at a pot-luck dinner event Sept. 17 where a huge buffet style meal was set out. The meal featured several types of meat, pickles, potatoes, salads and the works. Following the meal and chit chat was the annual Rusty Relics meeting, where the whole summer was discussed as well as future plans.Overall the great group of volunteers gathered with the people they have become close friends with over the years to ensure that Carlyle delivers educational and entertaining fun each summer.
