Fall is here and with its beginning many Carlyle residents were expecting an election. However residents will not be casting a vote for their council members or mayor as every local candidate ran unopposed.

Mayor Don Shirley will once again serve as town Mayor, as he had no one fighting for his position. Shirley has been active mayor since November 2006 and was alderman for three years before that.

Half of the mayor's council team will remain the same with Melvin George, Roy Olmstead and Wayne Orsted coming back for another go at the table each meeting.

New counselors joining the council will be Jennifer Sedor, Brian Romaniuk and Darcy Moore. The newcomers ran unopposed due to the fact that previous members Darren Grimes, Michael Lothian and George Anderson stepped down.

The new council will be introduced to the other members when they join in on the former council's last two meetings to get a feel for things. The new members will officially take over in the first week of November.

For those readers living in Arcola, Manor or Wawota however, you will be asked to participate in an election at the end of October. It is important to know your candidates and put some thought into your vote as these people will be helping to make town wide decisions.

In Arcola, eight nominees will be running to fill six positions for town councilors. Nominees who are returning for the vote are Tricia Glines who is the local pharmacist, Donald Hale, who serves as a maintenance worker, Marie Lise Morin, town physician and Sheila Sim, who is an office administrator. New nominees are Don Fichtner, who is retired, Michael Heidinger, who currently owns an oilfield business, Elaine Hislop, an insurance broker and Gary Kerr, a bar owner and mechanic.

The Village of Manor will be holding elections on Oct. 24. Voting will take place between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Over 60 Hall on Main Street. Results will be declared at 9 a.m. on the 25th. Candidates names and information can be found around town and at the village offices.

Nominations in Wawota are still currently open, and the election is expected to take place on Oct. 24. Stay alert to more news regarding the candidates.
