Head for the Hills Veterinary Health Services welcomed a new doctor of veterinary medicine (D.V.M.) to their staff on Monday, June 16.
Monica Schott originally comes from Woodlands, MB. Here she grew up on a beef and grain farm, which nurtured her love of animals.
Schott remembers growing up with cattle, horses, dogs, and cats; but, holds a very fond place in her heart for her horse which she participated in 4-H with for 12 years.
Always surrounded by animals it became an easy decision to pursue veterinary medicine for Schott.
"I grew up surrounded by animals and we had really good vets in the area," Schott explained. "I was able to learn from them throughout the years."
With having grown up around animals and the local vets encouraging her interests, Schott would eventually apply to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). She only recently convocated with WCVM holding its graduation on Friday, June 6.
Fresh out of school Schott is excited to continue learning and to utilize the knowledge she acquired over the years she put into her D.V.M.
Coming out of school, Schott was simply looking for a job in her field but became excited by the prospect of living in Carlyle as she enjoys small towns and the beautiful countryside of the area.
"It seemed like a good fit," Schott smiled.
Though she enjoys working with the larger animals such as cattle and horses, she likes the idea of gaining experience in a variety of needs that a small town veterinary clinic requires.
Schott will be based in Carlyle, but will share some responsibilities with veterinarians in the Head for the Hills clinics in both Kipling and Redvers as well.
