Approximately 100 people braved the -20 degree weather to show their respect to our veterans, past and present, at the outdoor cenotaph in Moose Mountain Provincial Park.
MC Joan Adams opened the service with the singing of 鈥淥 Canada,鈥� followed by a prayer from Jim Sedor of the Moose Mountain Church of Christ. Kim Brown, Park Manager, lead a group of children in a special presentation song called 鈥淟ight a Candle for Peace鈥�. Lori Snelling read 鈥淚n Flanders Fields鈥� and the response was lead by her husband, Miles Snelling. Shelby Adams wrote and read a beautiful poem, dedicated to the memory of her grandfather who was a tail gunner in a Lancaster bomber in WWII.
Wreath presentations were made by: Gerry Kuzick (Air Force), John Pott (Army), Steve Bird (Navy), Cst. Michael Pike in his Red Serge (RCMP), Zac McClinton (Veteran鈥檚 Families and Search & Rescue) and Joe Cornforth (Moose Mountain Church of Christ). On flag detail this year was Patti McAuley and granddaughter Alivia.
Amid the freezing temperatures, Ainsley Sauter trumpeted the 鈥楲ast Post鈥� and 鈥楻eveille.鈥� John Pott recited the 鈥淎ct of Remembrance鈥� followed by 鈥淕od Save The Queen.鈥�
As we do after each service, Joan invited anyone in attendance to place their poppy on one of the wreaths, in their own act of remembrance.
Everyone was then invited to the Moose Mountain Church of Christ for a hot beverage, homemade soup, sandwiches and baking. Thank you to all who contributed to that delicious lunch.
