Every year the Moose Mountain Marathon grows, and going into its 6th year.
Held as a fundraiser for the Arcola School Track Club, it has become a must for people who enjoy running in the area and often drawing from runners attending from other provinces as well.
Meeting at Saskairie on Sunday, Aug. 10, there will be three distances for people to run/walk and simply be active as they enjoy the surroundings of the Moose Mountains.
People are able to register, by July 10, for either the 5 km, 10 km, or half marathon.
Registration for the event has recently opened with any of the three distances being $40 to participate. With this runners will be entered for draws, take home a medal, enjoy brunch, and feel good about supporting local youth.
The run is described as having a few hills, while following both gravel roads and grassy trails. Each year they attempt to have two routes available, with the back trail having only been used once as it has been too muddy due to rain. The trusted trail, however, has only been helped with light rains the days prior to the run as it ultimately helps keep the dust down along this route.
Water stations for the run will be set up every two and a half kilometres, with both water and Gatorade available.
An additional item, which can be purchased as a souvenir includes the Moose Mountain Marathon's specially designed t-shirts each year, which are $20 and come in various sizes.
