WEYBURN – Weyburn and area residents are encouraged to #GetReal during Mental Health Week, which will be May 2-8, and to take in the Mayor’s Luncheon speaker and the annual book sale in support of the Weyburn branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
The CMHA Mayor’s Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 3 at McKenna Hall, and will feature guest speaker Lauren Kohl of Montmartre.
Lauren is 20 years old, and will be sharing about her mental health struggles and victories, including how sharing her story with others has been rewarding for her and for those who have heard about her experiences.
She has been struggling with mental health issues since she was 12 years old, and at this young age she was confused, scared and unable to see the light ahead of her without the help of her parents. She tried many remedies and tools to help her along her journey to mental health.
Lauren is excited to share about the tools that helped her get through some dark, tough days, and to shed some light for others who may be working through their own struggles.
The event goes from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the meal will be served at 11:30 to allow for time for the presentation.
Tickets for the luncheon are $25 each with tables of eight available, and residents have until April 26 to get their tickets.
The book sale will be held on May 4 and 5 at the Blue Earth store on Third Street, going from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with all proceeds going to the CMHA.
A community initiative will also be a part of the week, as a door hanger campaign will roll out listing the many mental health resources there are available to residents of the Weyburn area.
Look for the green door hangers in the April 29 issue of Weyburn This Week, which will go to every household, with hangers also provided to businesses and in the city’s hotels for visitors to Weyburn.
