WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 90 calls for service during the week of Feb. 14–20, resulting in a total of 22 charges. Of the charges, four were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and 18 were laid under the Traffic Safety Act. The majority of traffic violations resulted from a high visibility traffic enforcement project conducted by officers on Friday evening.
Police were requested to perform many well-being checks over the past week regarding concerns of a varying nature. WPS members were able to locate and help those that were found to be in need of assistance.
Weyburn Police and EMS personnel responded to a medical emergency involving an individual suspected to be experiencing a drug overdose. The individual was assessed by EMS personnel and transported to the Weyburn General Hospital for further medical care.
A call was received from a resident indicating that there appeared to be someone attempting to break into a home in their area. Responding officers arrived and found the individuals who were attempting to gain entry actually resided at the residence but had mistakenly locked themselves out.
While on patrol, an officer observed an individual in a vehicle along with another individual in which they were known to be on a release condition specifying they were not to have contact with. The officer conducted a traffic stop resulting in the individual being charged with failing to comply with a condition of their release.
Two individuals were arrested during the week on separate occurrences as they were found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest. Both matters were dealt with accordingly as the individuals were arrested and ultimately released with upcoming court dates to speak to their respective matters.
Weyburn Police attended to a nearby residence at the request of the RCMP who indicated they received a report of a domestic disturbance that was currently in progress. Officers attended and were able to mediate the situation amongst the occupants of the home without any resulting charges.
Officers attended to a request from medical personnel to assist with an upset individual who was causing a disturbance at their facility. Medical personnel and the attending officers were able to calm the individual and successfully de-escalate situation.
Officers responded to several other calls of a varying nature during the week including alarms, noise complaints, domestic disturbances, mental health concerns, and requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing. No charges resulted from any calls of this nature.
