Ninety-nine years is an accomplishment of great magnitude and this year the Maryfield Fair marks their 99th anniversary on Thursday, July 24.
Bringing both past favourites and new excitements the fair continues to draw crowds and celebrate a tradition dating back nearly a century.
Admission to attend this long lasting tradition is $5 for adults, $4 for students, and preschool get in for free to enjoy the fun.
A pancake breakfast will be held between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. to start the day.
The annual horse show will be held in the rink beginning at 9:30 a.m. with various age categories and riding categories for youth to take part in. Registration for this must be completed by July 23 at 6 p.m. through Faye Gray who can be reached at (306)646-4505.
New this year will be a Hunter/Jumper Show on the fairgrounds also held at 9:30. Registration for this is needed by 6 p.m. the night before the fair as well, but Jaida Adamson is the contact at [email protected].
The tailgate sale will again be held on the fairgrounds, while a craft sale will be held at noon in the curling rink.
Other events include kids' activities such as face painting, carnival games, bouncy castles, and a petting zoo. Kids will also enjoy entertainment later in the evening with Dan, the Music Man, and Francine from the farm.
The day will also see three programs held by Dreamers and Makers, which focus on hands on activities for youth in grades one through six. The topics for the day include Crazy Circuits, Strong Structures, and Innovative Inventors.
While at the fair, take in multiple delicious and aromatic flavours with the chili cook off at lunch time.
At noon the exhibits which will be auctioned off at 4 p.m. will be opened for viewing. Usually able to find a tasty treat or a beautifully crafted afghan and more, there will be many exhibits available.
With the horse shows wrapping up around supper, a pork dinner and all the fixings will be held at 5 p.m. for anyone interested. Cost for the meal is $10 per person or $5 for those 12-years-old and younger.
