Lanterns for Mya

Walking around town there are so many posters that many have become accustomed to ignoring them. There is one very large pink poster that should not be overlooked. This poster isn't like most.

Walking around town there are so many posters that many have become accustomed to ignoring them. There is one very large pink poster that should not be overlooked. This poster isn't like most. It is not a scam to grab your money, nor is it something you've already got on your calendar from last year. Around this time last year the town of Carlyle was grieving the loss of a very special girl. Mya Dawn Fehrenbach was only 21 months old on Oct. 16, 2011 when she passed away suddenly. She was the daughter of Tyler and Krystal Fehrenbach but was loved by the whole community for her contagious smile and dancing.Amy Geiger and Nicole Currie were two of the people who will always remember this happy little girl. They are the owners of the Pearl Boutique and decided they needed to do something in honor of a short but meaningful life. Mya's day will take place annually on Oct. 16 and be a celebration of not only Mya's life, but also a day to honour all the people who have touched your lives. Pearl Boutique will be selling Chinese lanterns that supporters can write unique messages on to a loved one that has passed on. Everyone who purchases a lantern will get together on Oct.16 to send that lantern up to heaven. The lanterns are only $5.00 and are on sale now at the shop. Proceeds from this event will be going to many different organizations for the years to come. For this year, however, the focus is on getting a bench for Carlyle in memory of all the people the town and area has lost. In the future, the shop hopes to donate the money towards organizations such as Make a Wish Foundation, Telemiracle and intensive care units. There is no need for you to have known Mya to participate, as everyone knows what it feels like to lose someone you cherish. Some of these loved ones are around for 80 or more years, whereas some are taken as toddlers. The age of the deceased does not matter, as love can walk into your heart within one beat.
