A large group came together in Kennedy to partake in the Terry Fox Run.

Terry Fox, while battling cancer, in 1980 decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. He wasn't able to complete the cross country trek before passing away. His efforts, however, spread across, not only the country, but around the world and the First Annual Terry Fox Run was held in the following year, 1981. His legacy continues to endure and money towards cancer research continues to be raised every year.

On Sunday, Sept. 16, the Town of Kennedy held their Terry Fox Run. Organization was headed by Jean Sostorics with the help of Joanne Monro and Carla Dovell. All were volunteers from the Plainsview Credit Union.

It was a warm fall day that threatened rain, but it avoided those walking. With over 40 walkers made up of adults and children it was a great day for a walk/run. Many youth were on their bicycles motoring their way along the chosen path, others walked, while a few ran. Those on the walk were joined by a multitude of dogs enjoying the fine day as well.

The Terry Fox Run in Kennedy has been held for 23 years, beginning in 1989 with Doreen Cancade organizing the event for many years to follow. This is the second year Sostorics has headed up the Run, but has been involved for quite awhile.

At the event there was a poster hanging, which all were able to write on for who they were walking for. Family and friends both those who were passed away and those currently battling cancer were being thought of as the walkers made their way around the town a couple of times.

The day before, Sept. 15, saw seven scooters take part in their own Terry Fox Run, which raised $570. Sunday saw both the school and town Terry Fox Runs held together. They were able to raise$2,155 for the cause.
