ESTEVAN - An Estevan man pleaded guilty in Estevan Provincial Court on Thursday to two charges in connection with a collision south of the city last October.
Joseph Lee Dzuba’s pleas were for one count each of driving while prohibited and operating a conveyance while the ability to do was impaired by alcohol or a drug or by a combination of both.
The impaired driving plea was a lesser charge, as he had been charged with operation while impaired causing bodily harm.
Two other charges were stayed: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and criminal negligence.
He was sentenced to 15 months, but was given credit for time served, so has to spend another 267 days in custody at the Regina Correctional Centre. He also received a 10-year driving prohibition.
According to the Estevan RCMP, on Oct. 29 at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers received a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the Sunset cabin subdivision south of Estevan.
Initial investigation determined the adult female pedestrian was walking from a residence toward Highway 47 when she was struck. The vehicle did not remain at the scene. The pedestrian sustained what were described as being serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Dzuba was arrested on Nov. 1.
