Estevan lawyer receives award for efforts in Oil and Gas Law

Barry Bridges has been a lawyer based in Estevan working with numerous businesses in southeast Saskatchewan for over 40 years.

Barry Bridges has been a lawyer based in Estevan working with numerous businesses in southeast Saskatchewan for over 40 years. This year marks a large achievement, however, as he was presented with an honour of being voted as one of the best lawyers across Canada working in Oil and Gas Law.

"My understanding is that a committee voted on the best lawyer awards, they put forward names, and vote," Bridges explained. "They do it every year and pick lawyers from different areas of law."

Bridges who graduated in 1971 from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Education would go on to complete a Juris Doctor degree in 1973. After working in Regina for a year following convocation, he would travel to Estevan to work from 1974 to present day. Currently he works with the McDougall Gauley LLP law firm.

After working in Estevan, Bridges developed a passion for Oil and Gas Law though he does practice law in other areas as well, including Corporate, Estate, Commercial, and Real Estate law. This passion for Oil and Gas Law flourished and led to Bridges being involved with many businesses in the Carlyle area as well.

A man who doesn't look for recognition, Bridges was very thankful for the award, one which holds considerable merit having been voted on by his peers.

"I didn't know anything at all, I was very surprised to get the notification," Bridges explained. "The people I work with here have a lot to do with it; they've made me a better lawyer with their qualifications and capabilities."

"I'm very humbled by the award."
