Burning yard waste fills Weyburn's Legion Towers with smoke

A neighbour burning yard waste filled the Legion Towers hallways with smoke

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Fire Department and Weyburn Police Service were dispatched on Oct. 4 to a fire alarm system activation at the Legion Towers on the 400 block of Sixth Street.

The building's fire alarm system indicated a fire within the air intake system, but investigation and inspection of the building found there was no fire inside Legion Towers. Fire crews used positive pressure fans to clear the smoke out from within the building.

The Weyburn Fire Department strongly reminds residents that trees, leaves, sod and other garden waste are not to be burned within City limits.

In regard to an earlier fire in Weyburn, of a home on Douglas Road on Sept. 30, the Fire Department has determined the cause of fire was an overloaded electrical system.

Reports have also determined the initial estimates on damages will be greater than $200,000.
