Motorcycles are going to be rumbling into the streets of Carlyle once again as the 13th Annual Carlyle Boogie Fest will be hosted on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21.
The annual event first began when Trevor Dalziel and Larry Brady came together with the idea. Thinking that a bike rally would not only be a lot of fun, but it could be something that the Carlyle and District Leisure Complex now the Crescent Point Leisure Complex could use as a fundraiser to help with expenses and upgrades.
The pool board agreed the dedication Dalziel and Brady have given to the event has meant success.
The majority of the activities can be found at Lions Park in Carlyle under the pavilion including kids games, face painting, and bouncers by Cornerstone Family and Youth on, June20, at 4:30. A hamburger sale and barbeque will be hosted here at 5:30 p.m.
Earlier in the day on Friday, June 20, there will be a free lunch found between noon and 1:30 p.m. in the Home Hardware parking lot.
Saturday will see the most action though with a free pancake breakfast in Lions Park between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
A poker derby will then get started at 11 a.m. with the run leaving for Maryfield where they will have lunch, they will also get a chance to go through Alida and Kenosee, finishing back at Lions Park where supper will be prepared by the Knights of Columbus at 5 p.m.
Poker hands are available to both riders and non-riders and will be sold during the Saturday morning pancake breakfast.
Throughout the day a senior ball tournament is also being held and can be found at the ball diamonds in Lions Park.
The supper on June 21, is open to everyone and is the beginning of the fun for the night with a dance featuring Product of Canada at 9 p.m.
New entertainment also comes in the form of a mechanical bull, which Bear Claw Casino is bringing out.
Again the town's firefighters will be putting together a tasty treat between 10 p.m. and midnight.
The draw for this year's bike, a 2014 Harley Fat Boy, will be held at the dance at midnight. Tickets are currently available at various businesses around town and will be blitzed during the free lunch on Friday, June 20.
Another change this year comes with concerns regarding insurance and the bike games, thus the games have been taken out of the activity line-up. Regardless of this, Boogie Fest is set to continue delivering good times and great food for an even better cause, a place of recreation for everyone.
Boogie Fest t-shirts will again be available at King's Department Store, which has come to be a must have for many.
When asked about the success of Boogie Fest the pool board told The Observer, "There is something for everyone, with fireworks, mealsand the CFY carnival. [T]here is something for everyone, you don't need to be a biker to enjoy Boogie Fest. We encourage everyone to participate as it's a fun way to support the pool."
In addition to this the pool board also said that the event has grown due to the numerous volunteers and business sponsors that have continued to give each year. It's developed greatly over the years and people continue returning for Boogie Fest as it has become a go-to for many in the summer from across the southeast, with people from further away also ensuring they make it to Carlyle for the weekend.
