The timing couldn't be better. Volume three of Alida and district's history book, "Reflections of Reciprocity and Beyond" will be unveiled this summer during the community's centennial celebration.

Folks with ties to Alida, Auburnton, Cantal and Nottingham are expected to take part in the homecoming and centennial celebration, which will be taking place over the weekend of July 5th.

"We are planning a celebration to bring people home to their roots in recognition of their heritage," according to organizers.

On top of unveiling the new history book, which was last updated in 1989, guests to the celebration can expect a parade, show and shine, a petting zoo and other children's activities, a fireworks display and what homecoming would be complete without a beer garden.

Chances are the July 5th weekend will be a scorcher and visitors will be able to cool down in Alida's new pool.

Planners are also considering a "family challenge" game of slow pitch. They are also open to more suggestions as the celebration isn't until July.

Since the decision to publish an updated history book for Alida and district three years ago, the History Book Committee has been hard at work collecting data from local families, archives and newspapers.

In recent history, Alida was successful in receiving a $54,000 grant from the NHLPA for repairs to the local rink-an achievement that probably left some of the surrounding towns feeling a bit green.

"When we decide to do something, we don't stop!" said Brenda Junk, one of the Alida History Book Committee members when describing the spirit of the community.

The planners behind Alida's upcoming homecoming are clearly set on making history this summer.
